Live Surgery Performed via Video Link at BACO 2009

The British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology and ENT Expo (BACO),  provided a live visual experience to delegates at this week's conference held at the BT Convention Centre, part of ACC Liverpool, from the 8th – 10th July.

Over 1,000 delegates attended the conference – the largest attendance to date for this event – while 250 members watched a live broadcast beamed from a clinic in the South of France directly to Liverpool under the auspices of Live Interactive Otology & Neurotology Network (LION).

Two surgeons in Beziers Causse Clinic performed simultaneous live ear surgery to the conference delegates gathered in Liverpool who were able to interact with the surgeons and ask questions throughout the procedure. 

The technical team at ACC Liverpool linked up with the technicians in Beziers to test the broadcast performance rigorously beforehand, and to also ensure that the audience views being beamed to Beziers were of sufficient HD quality. 

Max McCormick, Chair of BACO Committee and Liverpool Conference Ambassador, praised ACC Liverpool as a venue that, "fulfilled all its promises".
