BT Convention Centre proves it's a breath of fresh air

Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre is celebrating its successful opening year by showcasing its green attributes at this year’s Confex.

Delegates visiting stand B451 will be treated to a reviving blast of fresh air from the oxygen bar featured on the stand. The oxygen bar is just one element of the BT Convention Centre's stand, which has chosen the environment as its stand theme

The £164million venue, which opened last January, is one of Europe's greenest venues, designed to produce half the CO2 emissions of a traditional building. It is partially powered by on-site wind turbines and uses rainwater collected on the venue's roof to flush its toilets.

Jacquie Rogers, general manager of the BT Convention Centre, said: "This year, Liverpool is celebrating its 'Year of the Environment'.

"Throughout 2009, the city will celebrate its green credentials, encourage environmental debate and challenge businesses and visitors to reduce their carbon footprints.

"Sustainability, along with return on investment, is increasingly topping the list of priorities for all conference and meeting organisers, which is why we have ensured it remains one of our top priorities as well. We know it’s sometimes not easy being green but we are here to prove it does not need to be expensive but can in fact result in saving you money."

In 2008, ACC Liverpool contributed £200m to the local economy, staging a series of high profile conferences including the British Council of Shopping Centres, supermarket giant Iceland and the Liberal Democrats.

More than 71,000 delegates passed through the doors during 2008 and the venue is now looking forward to an equally impressive 2009 with a number of high profile events to be announced at Confex.

The BT Convention Centre has 1,350 seats, a 3725 sq metre multi-purpose hall and 18 further meeting rooms offering complete flexibility. Total exhibition space is in excess of 7000 sq metres.
