Supermarket Bosses Check Out Liverpool
20 Aug 08The UK's leading frozen food store is to host its annual managers' conference in Liverpool.
More than 850 delegates from Iceland stores across the country will head to the city in October for the event.
The company, whose advertising campaign is headed up by reality TV star Kerry Katona, is the biggest retailer of frozen food in the country with 633 stores.
Jacquie Rogers, General Manager of the BT Convention Centre, added: "We are delighted that Iceland has chosen the BT Convention Centre for its conference this year.
"This is an extremely prestigious business win for us which helps to position the venue as one of the very best convention centres in the UK."
James Watt, events manager at Iceland, said: "We are delighted to announce this year's conference will take place in Liverpool.
"We selected the BT Convention Centre as our venue because the facilities are second to none and the location on the banks of the River Mersey is outstanding."
The BT Convention Centre is part of the Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool, an architecturally-stunning, £164m development on the city’s famous King’s Waterfront.
The venue aims to be the most environmentally-friendly facility of its kind in Europe and has been designed to produce half the CO2 emissions of a traditional building and will use 20% less electricity.
The venue’s purpose-built wind farm, funded by the European Objective One Programme, was completed in March 2008.
The five 20-metre low noise wind turbines are designed to look like works of art rather than traditionally-shaped turbines, and will provide the equivalent of around 10% of electricity in the Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre.
The BT Convention Centre has 1,350 seats, a 3,725 sq metre multi-purpose hall and 18 further meeting rooms offering complete flexibility.
Total exhibition space is in excess of 7,000 sq metres. The 'campus style' layout makes ACC Liverpool an exceptionally good venue for high security events. The adjoining Liverpool Echo Arena has 10,600 seats and plays host to major entertainment and sporting events.
