Liverpool's BT Convention Centre's Silver Lining
24 Feb 09The BT Convention Centre, part of the Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool, is celebrating after winning silver for 'Best UK Conference Centre' at the Meeting & Incentive Travel (M&IT) awards.
The industry's leading ceremony, took place at The Novotel London West last night (23rd February) and the venue scooped the award after conference organisers and readers of M&IT magazine voted for the BT Convention Centre.
The Liverpool establishment narrowly missed out on gold to Glasgow-based Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC).
Jacquie Rogers, general manager of the BT Conference Centre, said: "To be regarded as one of the two top best venues in the UK is a remarkable achievement for us given that we are still in the first year of operation. It is a clear signal that we are regarded as an elite venue that is having a real impact on the industry.
"It's a huge privilege to be taking home the award particularly as it was voted for by our customers. To receive their backing in this manner is testament to the professionalism of the Convention Centre team and to achieve this after just 12 months of operation is remarkable.
"We were up against some exceptional venues, some of which have been operating for 30 years, and to finish second reflects our ability to deliver a quality service in an excellent environment."
During a successful 12 months, the BT Convention Centre hosted over 100 events including The British Institute of Rheumatology, The Association of Chief Police Officers, The British Council of Shopping Centre’s Annual Conference and one of Prime Minister Gordon Brown's first cabinet meetings outside London.
More than 71,000 delegates passed through the convention centre's doors and the venue is now looking forward to an equally impressive 2009 with a number of high profile events booked.
