BT Convention Centre Wins Two Major Awards
The BT Convention Centre, part of the Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool, has been named 'Best UK Venue' at a major international industry award ceremony.
Judges at International Confex, one of the largest conventions for the meetings industry, held at Earl's Court in London, bestowed the accolade on the BT Convention Centre, which also won the award for 'Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative' for its green endeavours and sustainable conferencing incentives for event organisers.
The award is regarded as the 'Oscar' of the industry and is particularly impressive considering the BT Convention Centre has only been operational for ten months and was judged against other established venues.
Bob Prattey, Chief Executive at ACC Liverpool, said: "The awards cap off a superb year for us. To be judged the best by the industry's experts is a huge accolade and I’d like to take this opportunity to commend the ACC Liverpool team, all of whom have played their part in delivering a succession of high profile events whilst providing a first class service to our clients.
"The awards are also a vote of confidence in the Liverpool offering. We cannot market the venue in isolation to the destination. So our thanks go to everyone in the city who has helped us to achieve this award.
"To be named Best UK Venue for the second successive year is a great achievement for the Convention Centre team.
"To be rewarded for our CSR initiatives is a huge compliment and demonstrates how we value our impact on both the environment and local community.
"Since opening, we have hosted some of the highest-profile organisations and events in the country and we're continuing to secure bookings for 2009 and beyond.
"The BT Convention Centre has hosted some of the highest-profile organisations and events in the country, including The Association of Chief Police Officers, The British Council of Shopping Centre's Annual Conference, as well as one of Prime Minister Gordon Brown's first cabinet meetings outside London."
Liverpool City Council leader, Warren Bradley, said: "The BT Convention Centre has made a huge contribution to the city's economy and raised the profile of Liverpool as one of the key conference locations in Europe. It’s fantastic that in such a short space of time the venue has attracted events of international significance.
"The BT Convention Centre is really helping to push the city region's international standing to new heights and the recognition it has received will aid that process further."
This award-winning week has been further enhanced by the recent announcement that the Liberal Democrats are holding their main Autumn Conference in 2010 at the BT Convention Centre.
