Our Green Venue

ACC Liverpool is one of the greenest venues in Europe, specifically designed with the most energy efficient, environmentally-friendly green criteria in mind. A brand new, sparkly venue with a fresh and innovative approach to conferencing and events, the BT Convention Centre has been designed to produce half the CO2 emissions it would without any environmentally-friendly measures whilst using 20% less electricity – lighting, for instance, is high efficiency and controlled by motion detection.

We are the only BREEAM accredited venue in the UK: the entire building is designed to be inherently efficient, with an insulation and air control system that requires significantly less energy than a traditional build. Rainwater is collected on the roof which we use to flush toilets and five 20-metre low noise wind turbines on the river side of the venue contribute to our electricity supply while the roof of the Galleria – the spine linking the Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre - is made of the same construction as the Eden Project with twin layers of plastic blown up with air, ensuring the building stays cool in summer and warm in the winter.

Our commitment to the environment is more than just skin deep. ACC Liverpool’s Green Dream Team creates and develops ideas that change the way we do business to make it greener and cleaner, as well as supporting our hotel and tourism partners to do the same. And our suppliers and support teams are chosen not just on their service and expertise, but on their environmental ethos too; they make fewer deliveries to us, use less packaging and environmentally-friendly chemicals.

And we’re working on a carbon offset programme to offer our event organisers, so future events can all be carbon neutral.
